Oh brother—not again! How many times have we had threads on this with pros and cons being discussed. It will be a rinse and repeat.

Plus, we don't even know if it will be found as terrorism, yet.

Where is the I don't know option? We definitely have infected a variety of platforms of weapons made available to the public. But weapons have never been in short supply in our country, ever. So maybe it isn't just weapons.

Mental health services while lacking, are more readily available than they ever have been.

I don't think increasing the further militarization of law enforcement and incarcerations increasing from that increase in law enforcement will help either.

But I don't have a solution other than everyone should probably just smoke a big fat joint and chill the **** out.

Mass murderers could use a truck or bus to cause even more deaths and injuries at this venue. Look at Nice, France for instance.

U.S. media corporations are obsessed with dividing America because division is more profitable than unity. However, there is no means to regulate corporate media's obsession with getting rich by ripping our country apart at the seems.

This country is founded on the principle that freedoms are the highest ideal, and that it is not right to deprive everyone of a liberty in order to make theoretical progress against dangerous things that may happen in the future. The liberty of the people is preserved in thousands of ways when taking away a certain liberty might in theory make some people safer, particularly when this liberty is exercised lawfully millions of times more than it's abused.

And anyway, in Europe where they have very restrictive laws they do these things with guns they obtain illegally, knives, truck attacks, etc.

One major problem is just the human condition, mental health issues are still so stigmatized and mental health care lags so far behind the need in this country that it's hard for people to get care who even know they need it and are willing.

But in very rare cases, indeed nothing as bad as this has ever happened before, people are going to have a psychotic break and I'm not sure what you can do to prevent it. You can't prevent all crimes.

People need to not turn their back on God. We're doomed for the simple reason that I'll catch crap for suggesting this as a solution.

The first step is owning it as Americans. We got a gun problem. Not an ISIS problem. Not a terrorist problem. Hundreds of Americans are shot everyday all over the country. All we do is pray for victims. Maybe some should start by praying for themselves for condoning this? Think about it.

I'm asking the question because from a systems standpoint, it seems like there are only four points in the system to prevent this:

1. Have a culture where this is not even in someone's consciousness to do it. (I think that ship has sailed in America.)

2. Have a system where someone contemplating this has a better option, e.g., mental health help. This could also extend to identifying these people better to divert them before they start.

3. Limit the offense. Limit this person's ability to attack a large number of innocent people simultaneously, e.g., control access to mass-killing weapons.

4. Improve the defense. Once the person is starting to put their plan into place, stop them, e.g., surveillance, proactive design of public places, etc.

I don't think a solution is necessary. Obviously, places putting on events where large groups of people will gather should continue to refine their security practices based on lessons learned, but I'm not ready for any kind of drastic changes in the law.
