I guess we Italians still get the federal holiday, even in LA.

What kind of events will they have for indigenous people day? maybe a seminar on how not to get conquered by the road team.

Thanks to New World America for the tomatoes and the potatoes.

Your Welcome for the horses. Sorry about the smallpox.

That syphillis was a dick move. Shame on you.

Christopher was a hire for Spain—not the Italians. Free trade in labor apparently.

More likely, that any people with more advanced technology will usually dominate or replace less advanced peoples, when they'd be better off assimilating which would lift them up from primitive conditions. Some of them wouldn't so their demise was inevitable. Not that I think all that was done was just or fair. But lets' face it—it was largely the English Europeans not the Spanish who mixed and mated more with the indigenous people they conquered. Ours weren't indigenous exactly—just there before the Europeans.

That was the English. The Italian migration wave was much later—like early 20th century. But they certainly musta' been thankful for the tomatoes.

Besides the fact that it's ridiculous, Los Angeles isn't the first city to make this change:

Several U.S. cities including Seattle, Albuquerque and Denver have already replaced Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day.

This makes more sense but of course, it was outvoted. Ryu's my representative. He's a smart guy.

Buscaino and three colleagues Gil Cedillo, David Ryu and Mitchell Englander pushed an alternative plan to hold Indigenous Peoples Day on Aug. 9, a date selected by the United Nations for recognizing native peoples. The council rejected that proposal on an 11-4 vote.

Years ago South Dakota changed it to Native American Day, which is fine by me. Not something I care about very much since I have to work it no matter what it's called.

More virtue signaling... no surprise.

"This gesture of replacing Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day is a very small step in apologizing and in making amends."
