Does this commercial make anyone else laugh?

There's a commercial on now for a new medical pill. It's called Aciphex. They talk a lot about Aciphex, and then they talk about the side effects and other features of Aciphex.

Aciphex. Say it fast. How did that name get through the focus groups? It sounds more like a side effect than a treatment.

Vinnie Vincent used to run his Jackson through an Aciphex, then into a Marshall JCM head. Yeah, when I think of the Vinnie Vincent Invasion, I totally think of Aciphex.

This is the only pronunciation Bob Dole found.

I picked up on this the first time I saw it and mentioned it to the wife. Very funny.

The name has to be a deliberate marketing strategy - I guess the fact that we're talking about it bears that out.

They're trying to capitalize on all of the misdirected clicks sent their way from ass enhancement enthusiasts who search for "ass effects" on Google.

Don't believe me? Try it.

I know I touched on this in a previous post, but I thought I might expand a little on it.

Believe me when I say that if it weren't for these types of pills - PPIs (proton pump inhibitors) - I would be in pain all of the time. I would also have to seriously and extremely limit my diet. I used to go through Tums like they were candy. Those worked a little bit but nowhere close to stopping the pain of acid reflux. Then they came out in about the mid 90s with medicines like Pepcid AC and Tagament. Those worked better than Tums or Rolaids, but still didn't completely stop the effects of acid reflux.

I finally visited the doctor several years ago about my problem. His initial diagnosis was that I have acid reflux disease. After seeing a gastrointestinal specialist, they had me come in to have the scope down my throat to get a look at my esophagus and get a biopsy. That verified that I do, in fact, have acid reflux disease (or GERD -Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease - if you prefer the technical term).

My condition was rated a 5 on a scale of 1-10. Knowing how much pain and suffering I went through, I can't imagine how some folks even lived with this condition if they were higher on that scale. It is wonderful to be able to take a pill once a day and not have to worry about it any longer. Yes, it is expensive (I am lucky that my insurance covers about 70% of the cost), but well worth it. Believe me when I say that I have never been one to think all kinds of medications are necessary. But this particular one is a lifesaver.

Edit: Also, they say there is a small percentage of people that have this disease that can contract Barret's esophagus (cancer of the esophagus) if left untreated.

I'm the same as you. If I went anywhere without a roll of Rolaids in my pocket, I was in big trouble. I was on Prilosec for a few years until my insurance cut me off. Luckily, Prilosec had just came out with their over the counter product which works quite well for me.

I worked at this job for a few months at an insurance agency. The most boring job I've ever had. It was a cubicle job that had 3 other people around me. Mostly women worked there and their conversations got pretty interesting. One day all 3 women started talking about all the medications they were taking. All 3 of them mentioned one form of anti-depressant or another. They caught me listening in and asked me then what medications I was on. I told them none, that I hope to be in a better job so that'll never happen.

I really hated that job!

Aciphex has been around for a few years, I know what your talking about...they pronounce it Ass-a-phex.....but I feel weird telling people that so I sometimes say Ace-a-phex.

If that's true it's a preventative pronunciation. As it counters the effects of stomach Aaacid, not stomach Ace-id.
