Best way to book a Disney World vacation?

I'm in the very early stages of trying to plan a trip for our family to go to Disney World in late September/early October.

I've never been to Disney as an adult - my last time was in 1993 and it was god damn miserable, but I'd like to plan a great trip for my 6 year old.

We'd like to stay on property. Is there any tips, sites to utilize, to get the best deals? I'm sure we will get the fast pass and all that because we are only going for 3-4 days.

Just got back from Disney World yesterday;
- there is an app called ears and beers, you select what beer you want and it tells you where the closest one is in any park or resort
-Garden grocer is great, order alcohol too, beer is $7.00, fresh fruit is great, be sure to order at least 5 days early Order gatorades which you can carry into the parks, when empty refill at water fountains
- Get on mydisneyexperience set up your account and learn to use it!
- take granola bars, jerky (beef sticks) cheese/peanut butter crackers with you in your luggage, they take up little to no room
- take ponchos with you ALL the time, rains come up quickly
- staying on disney is worth it, the arm band system is great, (dont give your pin # to everyone or they will rack up some serious coin by the time you check out!
- fast pass is great from about 10 am on, get to the parks EARLY and you dont need fastpass for the first 2 hours
- park hopper worked well for us, we went early rode rides then used fast pass rides til 2 or so then back to the motel,swam, napped, then to whatever park you want that evening
- map out your plans the evening before
- MAKE everyone take a nap the first day, I did not and the next day we went to animal kingdom early, everyone was so tired we did not truly enjoy it.
that day we napped when I said sleep now, worked great for the rest of the trip
- Saw a dad and teenage son or stepson (my guess) get into a fist fight at hollywood, studios 2 punches and the kid shut up. Sad thing to see though with all those children around. Funny no security ever came.
- Heard a dad tell his kid he was oing to get a spanking if he didnt start having fun
- Everybody gets hot and stressed in the afternoon get the hell out of there!
- Checked out our luggage at the resort, got our boarding passes at the resort, awesome as hell
- Dont be afraid to call the help number at mydisneyexperience before you go, damn fast, damn friendly
- Gobs of super friendly people working everywhere, ask them questions, they WANT to help, ALWAYS very strange concept!
- Its damn hot, damn humid but take a hat, sunscreen, VERY comfortable shoes, sunglasses for everyone (they LOVE to sell that shit)
- I took a go pro silver and took lots of video, they will gladly take your picture and sell them to you online for $30.00

I don't have kids and have no reason to go to Disney, but this sounds ultra-complicated for a vacation.
