The 49ers have expressed to others that a deal for QB Alex Smith is effectively complete. Can't be finalized til league year begins 3/12

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora

so it's not official, both clubs view it at as it's effectively done. I do not know the other team. KC and JAX are 2 teams that make sense

If this trade goes down I want bowe and Albert gone and Charles and Hali and Johnson traded. They shouldn't be wasting their careers in a crap franchise that the owner refuses to make better. The players deserve better and should be treated better than a ****ing Alex Smith.

Yep, looking for exceptions to the rule is the Chiefs way.

I wonder if the Bills trade for Smith and then try and get Nassib in the 2nd to 3rd round range? Rookie head coach.....bring in a veteran QB to help move things along.

We have like 16 days before trades are allowed. Plenty of time for any trade to fall apart.

People here are pissed because of the possibility of not getting Geno. All that means is that they could draft a later round QB as well.
I actually dislike you and think that you're a picture perfect candidate for the indonesian sex slave trade. Personally.

Alex Smith made a lot of strides this year. He was actually throwing it to his receivers (something he struggled with the first Harbaugh year) and outside of 1 horrible game he had a few 'I didn't realize he could do that!' games as well.

He absolutely played like an elite QB @ Arizona for one...and I'm sorry, I realize Jim Harbaugh is a great coach and I realize Smith was surrounded with a SURPLUS of talent but you can't tell me Jim Harbaugh could take Matt Cassel and turn him into what Alex Smith was this year.

and Smith was benched after going 18-19 @ Arizona (a really good pass defense) with 3 TD's and then starting a game @ the Rams (an underrated defense) 8-9 with a TD.

Hey, I really want Geno...but I'm a Chiefs fan so I'm used to this garbage. I can't quit this team so it's not even worth trying.

I'd rather have Geno but 5 years of Trent Green clone isn't the WORST thing that has ever happened to us.

I realize it is frustrating, I'm frustrated. I really hope this isn't true.

and then when it is true...I'm really going to hope we can trade down and still take Geno, even though I realize that will be the biggest pipe dream ever.
The only way I will warm up to Alex Smith is if he leads us to two playoff wins next year.

I completely agree.

And I'll still be livid if we don't draft Geno in addition to Alex - which we know won't happen.

Or at least extract a hefty ransom out of the Eagles or someone else for that 1.1 and take someone like Floyd; a potential difference maker.

But do you think that's going to happen? No, of course it isn't. If we take Alex Smith, we're taking that overrated schmuck who's probably going to be the 3rd best tackle in the draft behind Fisher and Lane Johnson when all is said and done.

This move, in a vacuum, could be a good one. But the Chiefs will **** it up because the Chiefs always **** it up.

yeah

he lit it up for a Super Bowl caliber offense that was "the greatest show on turf."

Green was a system QB every bit the way Smith is a system QB.

Smith was "lighting it up" in San Fran this year as well.

I think it's probably about the most fair comparison you could ever make. Trading for Alex Smith is basically what we did 10 years ago for Trent Green.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/gamelo...416/alex-smith

again, I am just trying to be objective here. This isn't a Matt Cassel trade.

I really hope this doesn't happen but I can at least be realistic if it does.

Per @MaryKayCabot, the #Browns are not trading for Alex Smith. Cross of Jacksonville and Cleveland. Hope Alex likes BBQ.
