The NFL's tone-deaf marketing

The NFL keeps showing ads to get people hyped up about the season, and they must assume that we're nitwits or something. Or more likely, they're nitwits.

They make a big deal out of Aaron Rodgers' "hail mary" play against the Lions, first of all. Okay, if you're a Packers fan, yay for you. Let's see if you know who Bart Starr is. But if you're a fan of the other 31 teams, you look at that play and you know that Rodgers was handed a gift play on a completely phantom penalty on the previous snap. That play was a gift to one of the golden boy teams against a downtrodden team. And that's supposed to get me excited? It just annoys me.

And then they show a montage, and one of those plays is the Chiefs-Raiders game last year where the Raiders were given 16 extra plays after the clock had expired. The montage shows the play where the Raiders finally "scored". Again, if you're a Raiders fan you're probably sleepily looking through your crack haze and trying to applaud. But if you're a fan of the other 31 teams, you know that the end of the game was ruined by the officiating, leading to a change in the winner.

Come on, NFL. There are legitimate good plays that were not travesties. Show some of those.

I'm shocked that they are not. They had all sorts of camera angles for it.

Aaron Rodgers receives all the calls.

I am not wading into the Raiders-Chiefs game. I know I am in enemy territory.

And let's not forget the push-off pass interference in the first half that led to a raider score.

It was painfully obvious - that early in the season, the NFL did not want the division race to be over.

And F*** the mariota call.

Thanks for this thread btw........all my recent dreams of Mahomes leading us to the promised land have now been brought back down to reality.

our team isnt one of the anointed organizations..........sigh.

I can give you hope. When Patrick Mahomes II begins riding roughshod over the enemy like Patton in France, the Chiefs will become one of the anointed organizations. Everything will tilt in our favor on the unlevel playing field. And the NFL will begin advertising some Chiefs game-winning touchdown that embarrasses us as fans because it'll be a play that we didn't earn.

Steve Czaban calls the NFL 'A television show about quarterbacks'...yeah, pretty much. And the Rodgers commercial codifies that.

They sure better or I want the last 42 years of being a Chief's fan back.

And I deserve some tilt in our favor, no embarrassment whatsoever. I absolutely have earned it!

Agree with the oversaturation aspect. There is just too much football on tv.
