Game of Thrones *Spoiler* Thread

There's been some recent confusion with the old spoiler thread, so I'm kicking off a new one for tonight's premiere. This is going to be the one for folks who've read all the books. So anything anybody might want to talk about is in bounds. Suffice to say, if you haven't read the books, you'll probably want to stay out of here until you do...

I'll bump the old spoiler-free thread shortly in case anybody's interested. For future reference the link to that one is here

That pissed me off. Just as we start to get up for seeing a bad ass do his work, take down the mountain and then go kill some more Lannisters.... GRR has to kill him off.

He is in a lot of scenes in the books. Wonder why they didn't use him? Didn't want to add another charector to the TV viewer?

It was also one of the most brutal scenes in the books. I'm not looking forward to seeing how they do it.

So are they going to discontinue the Gilly sub-plot? The whole sending her off with the different kid?

Am I not remembering right or did the conversation between Tywin and the Viper not take place in the books?

I'd assume they continue it, unless they plan to make her vanish in Moletown instead of sending her to Oldtown with Sam and Aemon, then eventually taking Mance's kid to Horn hill as Sam's bastard.

I think they're just trying to get a little more out of the relationship now than the book did.

It had to. Oberyn was one of the judges in the books and Tywin decided the judges, didn't he?

I just started my re-read of Storm of Swords and I forgot how much better the book is. The show is still great but they have to leave so much out. I am only through the first Jaime chapter and it was amazing with the Riverrun galley chasing Brienne/Jaime in their little boat.

My wife is just finishing up Dance so it motivated me to do a re-read of books 3-5. She just got to the part where Jon gets the letter from Ramsay so she will be in for a shock very shortly.

These books are even better in some ways on a re-read. The first time, my impatient self wanted to know what was going to happen so I read them way too quickly and missed some of the richer detail. The second time through was fun because I could focus on the details more and try to catch more of the hints that GRRM throws out there as well as more of the history he has created.

I would strongly recommend reading books 4 and 5 simultaneously the second time through based on one of the chapter lists you can get on-line (i.e. at Tower of the Hand website). To me the story flowed sooooo much better that way than it did splitting some characters off and then coming back to them later. Much more enjoyable to me.

I don't remember how it happened at the time, but Jon's stabbing was spoiled somehow so I knew about it long before I got to it. So I can only imagine what the response will be like for somebody coming into it fresh. I'm envisioning much screaming and crying and gnashing of teeth.

I'm 4 episodes into season one, it has helped me understand who's who a LOT... I'm actually enjoying this show now that I've got that down.

Yeah. I think that I'd already been exposed to Jon's stabbing as well as the various theories that he's not really dead or that he'll be raised from the dead. So, the emotional impact on me was pretty minimal in comparison to Ned's death or the Red Wedding.
