Chiefs Post Draft/June 1st Free Agency

I've mentioned this before and under normal circumstances, I wouldn't start a thread about it...but we are starving for fresh topics to discuss.

I've mentioned a few times that this draft class has close to 200 prospects that are graded as a third round pick or higher...that's a shitload of players that are starting quality or quality depth.

What that means is a lot of veterans are gonna get cut because teams are gonna want to retain their cheaper draft picks over the veterans that cost more...so that means the post draft/training camp cuts this year are gonna be more widespread than in almost any other year and I think that will provide a lot of opportunities for teams like us that will be looking to fill a few holes, no matter what happens in the draft.

I'm wondering if that's why we are keeping some cap space set aside...

June 1st cuts mean nothing now. You can cut 2 players now and designated them a Post June 1st Release.

Per the rules of the CBA each team has the option to designate two players per year in this manner

Still doesn't address the fact that a team can have a vet #3/4 type receiver on the roster on May 1 and decide they don't need him when they draft one that can be a potential #1/2 type guy.

A lot of veterans wont be cut. You can have 90 players on a roster now. Those Vets will be cut when it's cut down day not in June.

It depends on the type of #3/4. If it's a guy that can actually catch the ball 10+ yards downfield versus a guy like Dexter McCluster, then sure.

The deepest positions in this draft are

Corner
Wide receiver
Offensive tackles
Defensive linemen

If I were to gauge an educated guess on which players/positions would be impacted by this, those are the positions I'd say might have some big names added to free agency between the draft and regular season, those are the positions.

Between the draft and the regular season, this draft is gonna severely impact the veterans in the NFL.

I'm sure Dexter can catch a ball 10+ yards downfield. It's not his fault that he was consistently asked to run 2 yard routes when the team needed 8 and Alex always looked his way.

No team is gonna cut a vet till they see what the rookie can do in camp.
