Chiefs trade (Arenas) for...wait for it...a FB?

Chiefs acquired FB Anthony Sherman from the Chiefs...er Cardinals.
New Cards head coach Bruce Arians has no room for plodding fullbacks in his aggressive, vertical offense. So Sherman heads to Andy Reid's West Coast scheme as Jamaal Charles' lead blocker. The 2011 fifth-rounder graded out 20th among 25 qualifying fullbacks in Pro Football Focus' rankings last season. May 1 - 12:11 PM

WTF?

So we going into camp with 4 FBs on the roster, of which we will keep exactly ONE, and we are going into camp with 5 CB's of which we will keep exactly FIVE.

So my question is, if you say "well he brought in the guy at FB for competition, competition is good" etc. I ask you this, why the **** do we need a 4 to 1 ratio of guys to compete for 1 spot, and we take 'competition' out of a 1 to 1 ratio position.

How does this make sense?

The only thing I can think prompted this was that they had words internally, he wasnt physically ready, said he wouldnt play X, etc etc.

What do you mean non-existent? Under Reid in Philly, Leonard Weaver was a pro bowler who got 70 carries in one year. Owen Schmitt played 20% of the snaps and the Eagles ran a ton of I-formation.

Andy Reid loves to run out of the I, he loves a FB who can block almost like an extra tight end, and he likes to throw the ball to his FB to add yet another receiving target on the field.

People bitching about Kelce and bringing in a tight end have to understand the offense Reid runs. Both tight end and the fullback are going to play big roles.

PFF breaks down CBs by slot performance, thankfully.

Out of the top 45 slot CBs, Arenas was 27th in yards allowed, 39th in QB rating allowed and 15th in yards per cover snap.

Eh, it probably wont affect the passing game much; Alice is Alice is Alice etc. That said, I love some old school "I", and could never figure out why we didn't use a lead blocker for Charles. This element will actually be fun.

Could anyone else see a new "Frustrated Incorporated" video which includes Alex Smith fumbling in the end zone and one of our newly acquired fullbacks diving on the ball for a safety?

ahh, there it is. This is an important point. It's true that Reid throws a LOT, but he doesn't really do it in a spread, he doesn't do much 4 wide, he likes to throw the ball with a regular pro set or even multiple TE's and two backs, stuff like that. He likes to get a defense's big sets on the field and then make them chase receivers. He's always done that. I don't think we're keeping 5 FB's but we might keep 2 for ST's. I think this says that they thought Arenas was crap more than anything.

****a moved outside due to injury.

He did manage to give up 148 yards in 11 targets at nickel, though.

project that out in 22 targets he'd be giving up almost 300 yards

that's like 13 yards a catch. essentially giving up a first down every time he lets some asshole beat him like a drum in the slot

aka

he cant play man

Now you know that stat is completely subjective based upon scheme and use.

Exactly - the guy has been nothing special to this team & I hardly doubt there comes a point next year when anyone says, "Well shit, if only we still had Arenas there."

As far as I know Arenas has been serviceable while Dunta will be intolerable. Menzie is a nothing to show for and Brown is a hope he can turn into a poor man's Carr. It seems to me Arenas is the only one that has something decent to prove his case.
