Not to worry. We are about to deal Christian Colon for Upton. The Braves will probably even throw in a prospect as well to make it fair.

Yet Minny's attendance went DOWN from 2013 to 2014 by 227,038 (2,803/game) while ours went UP 205,728 (2,540/game).

Wearing Royals gear today in hopes for a move. Tired of them sitting around and waiting for a move to come to them...go make one happen.

Especially when you compare it to the Twins' attendance, since their numbers last year were down 30 percent from the year Target Field opened (2010 - just 4 years ago), down 9.2 percent from 2013, which was down 10.8 percent from 2012, down 14.1 percent from 2011. Turns out, there's a strong, lagging correlation between winning and fan attendance. Connection between season ticket sales and average attendance.

As for today: The Royals still need to make some moves. I'd still like to see a splash move (like acquiring Justin Upton in a creative way, which means losing Greg Holland or Wade Davis), but even finding a RH-hitting OF who nails lefties adds value.
If KC can find a short-side platoon partner for Jarrod Dyson, you're looking at a potential total contribution from that player combo of 5-6 WAR. KC has to make moves. They don't have to be blockbuster moves. Ideal, smaller "piecemeal" moves would be (no particular order): - RH-hitting OF. Doesn't HAVE to be a star, if it's a player who hits lefties at a good clip and can be platooned with Dyson. - LH-hitting C. Again, not a guy who needs to be a star. Bonus would be getting someone who can DH occasionally against righties. - SP. Again, not a star required. I'd prefer to see them nab a guy who can slot into the middle of the rotation and help bear some of the innings load. Ervin Santana would be excellent, but there's risk present and if the team is uncomfortable with 4 years, I trust them on that. With Finnegan, Zimmer and Manaea close, you have some higher upside options if it is too pricy to sign a Santana type in tier two (though I'd think the Liriano deal is very comparable to what Santana should and will end up getting, and KC could do that). But you'd still need some stop-gap/some insurance to cover that spot at least at the start of the year. If you end up with 6 quality SP options at mid-season, you either stash one for injury insurance or make a trade.

Now that he's expensive, Greg Holland just doesn't carry the trade value our fans think he does. 9m and he's projected to do 1.8 war by Steamer (seems a bit low, they have him at only 28 saves and 2.72 era). So his surplus value isn't all that high. He has to be dealt to a team thinking they are playoff caliber right now and there aren't many lackin closers. Prob only Det & Toronto, maybe Boston.....but why would we want to help either?

Currently:
Yordano Ventura Danny Duffy Jason Vargas Jeremy Guthrie They need to acquire another SP and plan to do so in the offseason. That player likely slots either before Vargas or right after him.

I think the Cubs should go after James Shields, as well. Back to the Future 2 told me the Cubs would win the World Series in 2015 so I have them at 28:1 at $25 in a futures bet when I was in Vegas. The Lester signing already makes that a more valuable ticket. The Royals were 12:1 to win the WS and 5:1 (2nd best odds behind Detroit at 4:1) to win the AL.
Can you believe that? Even for next year, Vegas still has the Royals with 2nd best odds to win the AL. |

Sorry I was looking at the wrong thing. 23 nonetheless. Now you add in Robertson and that gives us a very good closer. He's not filthy like Holland but good.
