Arguably the most talented receiver on the field, initiated contact, but was held to the point he couldn't make a play on the ball. The defender had his arm wrapped with a fistfull of jersey. It looked clear as day to me in real time watching the game but hey I'm no Ed Brocolli...

Jim sort of invites controversy and haters because hes so animated on the field. Hes a great coach, but he should probably learn to tone it down a notch.

This. How many times did we hear, "He's never been in a situation like this before," in regards to Kaepernick? I just kept yelling, "This is his first year starting, everything is a ****ing new situation for him!"

It's never about just one play ~ but everything on the line to win the Super Bowl the refs need to get that one right. No excuses for the refs it came down to that play and the refs didn't make a call that should have been called. If that ending happened to the Chiefs I'd be an irate Chiefs fan. I don't blame Jim H being upset at all. They are suppose to be the best refs in the league. Plays like that should also be reviewed in the last 2 min of the game.

I thought it was a good non call at the end. I dont like refs deciding important games unless its obviously blatant. Call could have went either way. How ironic the offensive age of NFL football we are in and the game ends on a great defensive series. I think alot of fans have been conditioned to see TD after TD, that they cant appreciate good defense anymore. Thats where alot of this outrage is stemming from.

And Simms kept blowing it off like no big deal. Kind of pissed me off he even went and said well the WR pushed off. Well damn what's he suppose to do when he is being held? LOL what a joke.
The other gripe I got is them proclaiming that RL went out as the defense held up on the goal line stance as the ending of the game. No it wasn't, Baltimore couldn't get a first down and it ended on special teams play milking the clock and going out of bounds for a safety & a free kick. That's how the game ended. Ray Lewis played like shit. He whiffed on a sack when Kap threw the ball in the endzone that his WR was being held. |

It wasn't a reviewable play but if people are going be nit picky & wanting a perfectly called game for the Super Bowl then maybe controversial plays should be?

Even if Crabtree had a clear shot to that pass, could he even catch it and come down in bounds? I don't think so.

It definitely should have been a penalty but you have to know that in the SB they "let the players play."

There was also a much more blatant, but less impactful, hold on the "run around in the endzone before taking a safety" play. One of the 49ers got through the line rather quickly and would have gotten the punter, but the blocker turned around and bear-hugged him from behind.

Deadspin has a gif of a Ravens player pushing a ref and no flag during one of the fumble scrums i think? Thats pretty amazing.

Not sure if the 49'ers did that a lot when he was healthy but I can't see them taking a huge element of their pass rush out if he was healthy. And for most of the game he had two men on him...
