Uh oh....Dude who plays Shane (Jon Bernthal) is going to be in Darabonts new series on TNT. That doesnt bode well for Shanes future does it?
http://www.hollywood.com/news/Walkin..._Noir/14597541 Earlier this month, we heard that The Walking Dead's original showrunner Frank Darabont was getting back in the television game with a series called L.A. Noir for TNT. An update on the story: talks are beginning between the show's producers and The Walking Dead star Jon Bernthal, who plays the embittered Shane Walsh, to join Noir in a leading role. So, basically, we should be hearing the tag line, "If you like The Walking Dead..." attached to this new series any day now. Bernthal's talks are in the earliest stages; at this point, it's impossible to say whether or not anything concrete will amount between him and the new program. But dreamers continue to dream: Bernthal's character on L.A. Noir, a crime drama set in the seedy underworld of 1940s Los Angeles, would be LAPD Officer Joe Teague, who is on a constant case involving the corruption in his city that blurs the line between cop and criminal. Now here's the bad news: if Bernthal does indeed sign on for a regular role on L.A. Noir, that could mean the end of his days on AMC's The Walking Dead. The actor has become a particularly celebrated aspect of The Walking Dead, especially over the course of this past season. We've seen his character Shane plummet to new lows of cloying desperation and survivalism, losing a good deal of what made him human in the world before zombies. Fans of the show have come to understand that nobody in this universe is safe—no matter how major or important a character one might be, he or she could very well be killed off in any given episode. Thus, hearing about the possibility of Shane leaving the show isn't exactly a shock. But that doesn't mean we wouldn't miss him |

I have never read the comic but I do recall reading an interview with one of the comic creators, Robert Kirkman.
In the comic Shane is killed off early. This is because Robert Kirkman was not sure how long the comic would run. With the TV show the character of Shane had more time to develop.

Losing Shane wouldn't kill it as long as they replace him with another villain.
