Off Season Lets Talk Guns
Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.
Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon? Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware? Part 2: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=293623 Last edited by Bearcat; 07-28-2015 at 06:06 PM.. |

a buddy went air marshal after 9/11 and he came back one day with .357 sig, it was a sweet shooting pistol, kicked like a 9mm, very accurate. I've also shot a sig 9mm and now carry a 40. I like sigs alot. I didn't get a chance to see the round in action IRL or on a gel test, but shooting it that day on the outdoor range on bowling ball pins, competition dueling trees, etc. I had no complaints. My buddy was talking it up too, for what it's worth, it's what he carried on the planes.

What's the deal with Sig .357 rounds? Are they just shorter?

The .357 Sigg are 'autoloader' rounds & 'necked' rounds (more powder behind a smaller hunk of lead).
The .357 magnum is a 'stretched' .38 special for our purposes, (.357 mag is a revolver round mostly, tho' there are a few autoloaders that can shoot 'em - exceptions to prove the rule, not common guns) The Sigg .357 is a round Sigg came up with to duplicate the performance of the .357mag for autoloaders. It's hotter than a 9mm. Sigg and Glock make pistols in this caliber that I know of - imagine there are others but I've never had this on my wish list, not my forte. Like the Glock (GAP) 45 it's fine for what it does, but it's not in really common use. I do have a Glock 37/GAP 45 and like it, more my speed. These 'special' rounds require some planning for ammo purchases. You can go into any gun store or tackle shop in many places and find 9mm, .38/.357 ammo. You may not be able to replenish your .357 Sigg or .45 GAP at Joe Bob's Bait and Video Rental in Bumfook, Arkansas. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.357_SIG ETA: in answer to a question upthread, the .357 Sigg won't shoot a .38 special or any other round that I'm aware of. Good gun, tho' per my friends who own 'em.

Latest upgrade for the AR - new bolt carrier group with nickel boron finish. Nice and slick to the touch, should be much easier to clean and will require almost no lubrication.
At this point, I'm an upper receiver, lower and barrel away from having enough discarded parts to make another rifle. Last edited by Frazod; 08-13-2011 at 06:20 PM.. |

http://safirarms.com/eng.html I still will have probably 5 full uppers and two lowers once they release the Colt SP901 and probably at least one AR10 upper for it too! http://www.coltsmfg.com/Catalog/ColtRifles/SP901.aspx

Just got done trying to sight in my Saiga .308 with it's new Nikon 4-12x42.
I want to shove it up a Russian's ass sideways. Belarus Picatinny rail doesn't seem to be holding well. I shot 2" groups at 100 then the bullets started to vary up to 12" to 15" off. With just the iron sites I got 3-4" groups from 100 out. The rifle is accurate, but the scope mounting system sucks. **** the Russians and their shitty engineering. Smith and Wesson AR-15 here I come! |

I will probably just do the trigger and grip mod, throw a red dot on and call it good. I am going to save the Nikon for a rifle that is worthy. Quick question for the AR experts: Is the front iron sites on the rifle easily removable or is the gas return ran through it? I need to decide between a S&W Sport for under 700 or splurge for the tactical for around 1K. |
