I'm extremely interested in that dynamic. The original Girl with Dragon Tattoo is a clinic on adaptation, really.

Anyone watched War Eagle, Arkansas yet? Might be a little sentimental or something for you all, but it's worth a rent.

Beers Wars - Interesting to hear interviews with Jim Koch (Sam Adams) and his former business partner who is trying to make it with her own product now.
And that Dogfish Head owner seems pretty cool. Would love to try that stuff but I don't know anywhere around here that I can get it. It really is ridiculous how Anheiser Busch buys out companies left and right just to control the market. Screw you, Bud!

i paid 2 dollars to see clash of the titans....almost walked out
just incredibly stupid movie....worse than the original in every way they changed it to make it about human prayers feeding gods and.....nevermind...it was so incredibly poorly conceived, written, acted, shot.... i'm pissed that i didn't walk out

Just finished Red Cliff Part II. It's already been said by others in this thread, but that was some good stuff.
I think that Tony Leung is one of the best actors working anywhere these days, and there were so many other good performances to go along with his. There were times when I wondered whether John Woo wanted me to take him seriously, or whether he was joking or making a parody or doing an homage to other films, but then I remembered that it's John Woo, and yes, he probably does want me to take it seriously even though what he is depicted is outrageous, but I just enjoyed it and went along for the ride. And it was worth it.

To be fair, I knew nothing of the movie before arriving at the theater. I'd never heard of it. Basiclly, I just wanted to see something and BAM was close to where I'd happened to be walking around.
There was a giant standy for Winter's Bone over by the wall that was preaching all of it's accolades. I went over to read about it, and a group of women told me it was supposed to be amazing. They said it was incredibly intense and hard to watch. So, I bought my ticket. I guess, just based on the ad and that conversation, I expected the movie to more difficult. I wanted more shock and suspense. I wanted to feel my guts turn to water. I wanted sweat on my brow from discomfort. I wanted something as relentless and bold and aggressive as American History X. Now, the movie I got was a fantastic experience. But it wasn't difficult to watch. It was desolate and depressing at times. It made me think of some people in my life... unfortunately. But I never twitched in my seat. I cared for the protagonist a great deal and the movie felt incredibly real. But it wasn't as suspenseful as I'd hoped. In many ways it was a better movie than I was expecting too. But, ultimately, I'd prepared for a specific emotional response, and I didn't get that. At all. |

I guess, something like Fight Club was a fairly faithful literal adaptation, but Fincher enhanced the experience by doing things that were very faithful (to the spirit of the book) that couldn't be done in a written format. He added to the book with tools that could only be employed with film. In many ways, I'd say FC the movie is superior to the book because of what Finch did. Is Dragon Tattoo the same sort of thing, or is it just a (more or less) straight forward visual representation of the book? |

Still haven't seen V-Day. Don't know if I ever will. Too many people I can't stomach in it. But Love, Actually... ahhhh... that's one of my heart movies for sure. Brilliant. |
