Old-Ass Andre Johnson will be released if Texans can't trade him

Report: Andre Johnson will be released if Texans can’t find trade partner

Quote:
One of the standout wide receivers of his generation is set to leave Houston.

According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans are allowing Andre Johnson to seek a trade. If Johnson is not dealt, he will be released, the Chronicle reported.

According to the Chronicle, the Texans told Johnson he would have a lesser role in 2015, which led him to ask for his departure from Houston.

Johnson is slated to make $10 million in salary in 2015, per NFLPA data.

The No. 3 overall pick in the 2003 draft, Johnson has played his entire 12-season career with Houston, catching 1,012 passes for 13,597 yards and 64 TDs. He has made seven Pro Bowls.

While Johnson turns 34 in July, he should nonetheless appeal to clubs looking to add a proven veteran presence to their receiving corps. He caught 85 passes for 936 yards and three TDs in 2014.

A Miami (Fla.) product, Johnson quietly starred on a string of mediocre-to-poor Texans teams early in his career. The franchise finally made the playoffs in 2012, his ninth NFL campaign.

If Johnson’s Texans career is indeed at an end, he will leave having caught 10 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown in his final game with the club, a 23-17 victory over Jacksonville in December. Though the Texans took care of business in the season finale, they fell just short of the playoffs. In many ways, it was an apt end to Johnson’s run in Houston — the star wide receiver doing his job well while the franchise fell just short in the end.

With Johnson likely gone, third-year wideout DeAndre Hopkins will become the Texans’ go-to receiver, a role he’s probably ready to assume.

Nevertheless, it will be jarring to see Andre Johnson, one of the Texans’ all-time greats now and forever, playing for someone else.

That's not really a factually based rebuttal. It's superstition.

But believe as you may. When you want to volley information back to me, I'm interested.

He's better then anything we have, if the FO fee's that he can improve the team at a reasonable price, i dont see why you dont do it. Who else can you get?

Our only major loss this offseason will (likely) be Hudson. We've got 11 draft picks. And our QB only trusts sharp route-runners.

He's got a great situation here if he is so inclined.
They were not fluke loses, they were legit losses! They just happened to be against bad teams

I'm serious, if I've spent my entire career with nobodies throwing to me, Alex Smith would be like a goddamn vacation.

Not to mention, if you're a HOF-potential talent on the twilight of your career, I can't think of one coach I'd rather end my career with than Andy Reid.

They were "legit" in that every game is legit.

If you want to define "fluke" as definitively out of character for how a team has played for the rest of the year, then you don't get more flukey.

He brings a toughness? He's been injury prone. Just no. It really won't matter that his hands are better. He's not a guy capable of getting enough separation for Alex to trust enough to pull the trigger. If we had a QB with a set of balls I'd be fine with offering him a short deal, but we have a bitch playing QB. It won't work.

The Texans and Chiefs are very similar in positional talent. And also very similar in not having a QB that can make them a consistent playoff entry every year.

I'm saying a guy like Johnson in the twlight of his career would probably sign cheap to a franchise that is highly probable of making the playoffs consistently.

That is not here. This team in the last 9 years has made the playoffs 3 times. So 1 in every 3 years we are going to to the playoffs. To compare the Ravens have made the playoffs 7 times in those last 9 seasons.

1,000 yards receiving with garbage under center in 2014. Your argument is invalid.

Possibly. Can't hurt to try, now cannit.

I'd prefer Alex Smith to 100% of the QBs the Texans have trotted out since Schaub was worth half a damn. Wouldn't you?

he didn't reach 1000 with Fitz..but regardless.

He's the type of WR Alex wouldn't throw to.

Remember when Bowe was a 1000 yard guy until Alex came in?
