Jesus ****.

That's our answer to watching the to managers we should've hired scrap tooth and nail in the World Series then see our hated rivals win it?

To extend the cluster**** that pretty much starts us behind in any short series 0-2?

Well, huh. OK.

So now that that's done, what can we do to right the ship next year?

Gotta get a better centerfielder, I'd like to see a first baseman or 3rd baseman brought it also.

Lose.

That's how you right the ship at this point. Clearly only winning 86 and missing the playoffs only to watch the 2 far superior candidates that openly campaigned for the job reach the pinnacle of their respective leagues wasn't enough.

So ****ing lose 100. 110. Lose in embarrassing, epic, Royals of the late 90s, early 2000s fashion with your 1b firing fastballs into your pitchers ear. Lose early, lose late and above all, lose publicly.

Just ****ing lose. Because there is no righting the ship with Mike Matheny in charge. He cannot - absolutely cannot - win a championship. It will NEVER happen. You cannot Matheny-proof this team. You cannot expect any team to climb out of an 0-2 hole 3 times every October.

**** this complacent organization. I'm openly rooting for losses at this point because this is just goddamn ridiculous.

I hate Mike Matheny, but let's not act like what Joe Maddon did over the course of Games 6 and 7 was anything other than a managerial apocalypse.

The upshot to Matheny has always been how he handles things in the clubhouse. I can't speak to how well that works, but the majority of his players do seem to like him, and after watching Maddon, you cannot make the claim that he would be any better in a big game.

And yet the last two years he's finished our season and then won a WS. And while Matheny's seasons have all ended in 3 straight playoff losses (until he didn't make it) because he simply doesn't have a plan B, Maddon just came back from down 3-1.

Do you think there's any chance Matheny could bring a team back from down 3-1? Give him the same roster Maddon has and that series is over in 5. They don't even make it back to Cleveland.

Joe Maddon didn't finish our season; Theo Epstein did. Maddon didn't do anything particularly brilliant at any point in that series. Francona had one starting pitcher and one elite bullpen arm, rode them until they disintegrated, and couldn't cobble it back together.

Francona did a brilliant job in that series save for a few miscues, like leaving Kluber in too long.

Maddon pulled his best pitcher and best catcher in the fourth for a guy who can't throw to first base on two days rest and his caddy. Said caddy then hit a homerun to center. If you recall, Tony Cruz once took Madison Bumgarner deep in a playoff game.

Sometimes you can't save random shit from happening in a game, but you can minimize it. Maddon managed the last 13 innings of that world series like he was a Cardinals fan.

If you want to complain about how Matheny will never be Bochy or Francona, I'm right there with you. They have and will de-pants him. But Maddon was clown shoes in that series and it didn't matter because he had so much talent and Cleveland was so injured it was nigh un****able.

Maddon's pitching decisions were mind boggling, yes, but let's not forget about the other aspects of the series.
-Not too many managers would have had the guts to call up Schwarber for the series.
-The adjustments he made to the lineup for the last two games in Cleveland obviously paid off.
-Had faith in Chapman to grind out another inning knowing how much he'd be crucified if it failed.
-Won the ****ing World Series.

Just read they won't make a qualifying offer to Moss, so there's that.

Right choice, imo.

The guy is a platoon bat with negative value on defense. He would accept the $17M offer and then what happens if the Cards get stuck with the Moss that ended the season?
