Invasion of Iraq 10 years later: Good move or mistake

10 years ago today the US invaded Iraq to overthrow the regime of Saddam Hussein. The after-effects of that decision are still being felt to this day, and obviously will continue to play out in the years and decades to come. At this milestone, however, knowing everything that you know now, should we have gone in, or not?

Regrets and hypotheticals aren't really the goal here. We could go on and on (and have, many times) about how the post-invasion situation was handled, etc. ad infinitum. You should vote simply on the facts as they have actually occurred over the last 10 years.

Poll forthcoming. Note that it will be a public poll.

I read what's in the link and no, he doesn't admit anything. There's some vague second hand statements about what he said and then a lame attempt to suggest that his statements are inconsistent with each other. (a) That's not an admission of anything, and (b) it's not at all clear that a lie was involved. Fail.

He said one thing and then another later which is an admission he lied earlier.

Are you talking about when a Middle Eastern leader was removed without the lost of American Life? or the Lost of Trillion of Dollars?

There you go again, by reframing the question for a strawman. That is irrelvant. I didn't ask you about how many lives were lost. I asked you if you were okay with that as in another invasion and toppling a govt. I might add, that was NO threat to the United States any longer. Also, I see you only respect American lives.

BTW, while we're at it, what was Benghazi, if not a loss of American life?

Yup, you're a hypocrite. Okay for Obama but not for Bush. Obama went in under false pretenses too. These things are more often done under false pretenses. Our govt lies as do most govts.

I could go on and on, picking apart your fairy tales and lies. But why waste my time? I tried to talk Pat out of it. He's hands down the smartest guy on DC.

I'm gonna listen to some Alice Cooper. You aint worth talking too.

Do you think that we would be having this discussion if Iraq went down like Libya went down? Do you forget that Libya actually posed a threat to its civilians? The hypocrisy is that we don't do squat in Syria after what happened in Libya. But Libya had oil.

And no, I didn't approve of going into Libya. I approved with Jon Stewart when he said something along of the lines of "you can't fire teaches the same time you are dropping bombs." I'm fairly pacifist.

Thanks for answering the question for me though. Great attempt at distraction from Iraq though. Why do you want to change the subject?

Are you seriously going to throw hyprocrisy and Benghazi in the same post?

Again, irrelevant to my original question. Your response implies you were okay with another invasion, bombing, toppling a govt to a non-threat. You also don't respect the lives of anyone else except Americans. Now you say otherwise. Which is it?

Why? To see if you're consistent about right and wrong on such things. Hypocrite.

Did you really think this statement would have gone unnoticed?

Also, getting Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11. The Iraq threat was fabricated in order to push a neocon agenda that had been cooked up long before 9/11.
They didn't leave bin Laden when they had him trapped, he escaped because it turned out that he wasn't really trapped.

Saddam didn't have a role in the 9/11 attack, but he was a part of the West's problem in the Middle East that led to 9/11. The Iraq threat wasn't fabricated by neocons. Parts of the WMD intel were fabricated by intel sources, but that's something we realize in hindsight, not a part of a grand conspiracy. The world is better off without Saddam.

Irrelevant? I said I didn't approve. Otherwise I was merely contrasting the two military engagements. You don't hold them on on equal footing do you? You projected what you wanted out of my comments, while calling them irrelevant.

And when did I ever say I don't respect the lives of non Americans? Never mind, I'm sure you infer that from my anti-Iraq war stance.

/how be we shift back to the topic at hand
//Whats the interest of two trillion dollars?
