Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) Is A Piece Of Shit

Harry Reid Implies Sequester Caused Explosion That Killed 7 Marines In Nevada

On the Senate floor this morning, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) implied the explosion that killed seven Marines at an ammunitions depot in Hawthorne, Nevada was due to the "cutting back in training and maintenance" in the sequester.

HARRY REID: As I indicated, it was quite a big explosion. We'll follow this news very closely. I will do whatever I can going forward to support the United States military and the families of the fallen Marines.

Mr. President, it's very important we continue training our military, so important. But one of the things in sequester is we cut back in training and maintenance. That's the way sequester was written. Now, the bill that's on the floor, we hope to pass today helps that a little bit. At least in the next six months, it allows the military some degree of ability to move things around a little bit. Flexibility, we call it, and that's good. But we have to be very vigilant. This sequester should go away. We have cut already huge amounts of money in deficit reduction. It's just not appropriate, Mr. President, that our military can't train and do the maintenance necessary.

These men and women, our Marines were training there in Hawthorne. And with this sequester, it's going to cut back this stuff. I just hope everyone understands the sacrifices made by our military. They are significant, being away from home, away from families, away from their country.

It's more interesting that the Marine Corp. is denying the sequester had anything to do with the accident. Just like the Secret Service supposedly denied The Blameless One's claim that they were responsible for closing the White House to tours.

I know there is a quote from George Orwell's 1984 laying around here somewhere. Here it is, I found it:

To know and not to know, to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which cancelled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them, to use logic against logic, to repudiate morality while laying claim to it, to believe that democracy was impossible and that the Party was the guardian of democracy, to forget, whatever it was necessary to forget, then to draw it back into memory again at the moment when it was needed, and then promptly to forget it again, and above all, to apply the same process to the process itself – that was the ultimate subtlety; consciously to induce unconsciousness, and then, once again, to become unconscious of the act of hypnosis you had just performed. Even to understand the word 'doublethink' involved the use of doublethink.

The power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them... To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them, to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then, when it becomes necessary again, to draw it back from oblivion for just as long as it is needed, to deny the existence of objective reality and all the while to take account of the reality which one denies – all this is indispensably necessary. Even in using the word doublethink it is necessary to exercise doublethink. For by using the word one admits that one is tampering with reality; by a fresh act of doublethink one erases this knowledge; and so on indefinitely, with the lie always one leap ahead of the truth.

Right wing move? I first heard this reported on MSNBC last night. Miklazewski(sp?) clearly stated that Reid implied the two were related.

Right, he just sandwiched sequester talk in between two statements about the explosion. But there was no intent to try and portray them as linked.

Yes, the right has done this multiple times recently. Benghazi, Newtown, and the political cartoon involving Chris Kyle. It's a typical M.O. for the right to accuse the left of being anti-military and unpatriotic.

This is funny, because what Reid is arguing for is pro-military. If the right doesn't like what he's saying, that non-discretionary cuts to the military are a bad thing, then argue against that rather that pulling this "he's disrespecting the deceased" card. If people want to call him an idiot for comparing this accident to what can happen as deeper cuts to training and maintenance go forward, fine do it.

When Romney decided to politicize Benghazi right after it happened, people didn't accuse him of disrespecting the dead, they accused him of being an idiot for talking about something he was uninformed about. The "disrespecting the dead" card was again dealt to Obama and the left.

Who here was acting like this makes Reid unpatriotic and anti-military?

You're coming across as the kind of partisan tard you're complaining about.

Not saying the left doesn't use political tactics, but I am calling out the right on this for what it is, a tactic. If you don't see it that way, then I wonder who's wearing the blinders...

It's funny that you say that considering you can't even admit this obvious attempt by Reid to link the sequester to this tragedy.

Let's try this again. MSNBC (not FOX) reported that Reid connected the sequester with the tragedy. You're saying that MSNBC is right wing?

No. So they covered it. Great. Now, go search this story on google news and see which are going with the "he implied it and it's disgraceful" garbage vs sites that are reporting sans spin or are covering other sites bitching.

http://www.nbcnews.com/id/51250706/n.../#.UUnQo1f2MbV

Quote:
WASHINGTON D.C. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- This morning, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid opened the senate floor with condolences to the families who lost loved ones, but came under fire for the remarks he said following that.

After expressing his condolences for the families, Reid said "It's very important we continue training our military, but one of the things in sequester is the cutback in training and maintenance...We have to be very vigilant. This sequester should go away. We've cut already huge amounts of money and deficit reductions. It's just not appropriate, Mr. President, that our military can't train and do the maintenance necessary."

After his speech, many people took to Twitter to voice their displeasure over Reid's comments.

NBC military correspondent Jim Miklaszewski appeared on the MSNBC Andrea Mitchell show and reported that the Marines have strongly rejected Reid's comments. He went on to say one Marine official accused Reid of "pure political posturing on the backs of these dead marines."

In a statement prepared for News 4, Kristen Orthman, 0ommunications Director for Reid's Nevada operations wrote:

"In the wake of the Hawthorne tragedy, Senator Reid's thoughts are with the Marines who were killed or injured and their loved ones. The idea that Senator Reid thinks the Hawthorne tragedy has anything to do with the sequester is absurd and unsubstantiated by his remarks on the topic. Marines would not be forced to operate under unsafe conditions due to budget cuts."
See the difference? OP article is accusing him of it, MSNBC article is reporting that people are bitching about what he said, not that their bitching and moaning is accurate.
