Pope Benedict to seek immunity and protection from Italian President Giorgio Napolitano on February 23 Posted on February 14, 2013 by itccs

Pope Benedict, Joseph Ratzinger, has scheduled a meeting with Italian President Giorgio Napolitano for Saturday, February 23 to discuss securing protection and immunity from prosecution from the Italian government, according to Italian media sources.

Ratzinger's meeting follows upon the apparent receipt by the Vatican of a diplomatic note from an undisclosed European government on February 4, stating its intention to issue an arrest warrant for Ratzinger, who resigned from his pontificate less than a week later.

In response to the February 23 meeting, the International Tribunal into Crimes of Church and State (ITCCS), through its field Secretary, Rev. Kevin Annett, has written to President Napolitano, asking him to refrain from assisting Ratzinger in evading justice.

So long as women have the threat of pregnancy hanging over their heads, they'll always be more reticent to sleep around and more worried when they do have sex. The pill certainly changes the equation but even then, they'll be concerned about pregnancy since nothing is failsafe. Even in marriages, women know intuitively that they will bear most of the burden not just in the pregnancy & childbearing, but in raising the child. That HAS to affect them mentally.

Seriously, listo, I don't know of much that has a 100% success rate. To be honest, I think your putting your own bias against the idea of celibacy into the matter to draw your conclusion.

The psychology is pretty obvious. You want what you cannot have. When you're told you can't eat chocolate or smoke cigarettes, it makes the temptation even greater. I also imagine that there is a higher skew of priests these days who enter into celibacy and did so because they either weren't big into women anyway or were unsuccessful with them. These are both just wild assumptions, but it seems pretty plausible.

I would agree that it seems the bigger problem is that it seems like it's the 80/20 principal -- that it's not as much a problem of tons of priests doing this, as it is a few priests doing it way too frequently.

The problem is that the solution is so simple. Stop all the widespread cover-ups and open up marriage for priests. Just like giving up fish for lent, the vow of celibacy is just a sacred cow of catholicism. It is not in the bible. It is just a tradition that has carried on for years.
