NBC news report on rise of women's gun ownership
Surprisingly open report from an organization not always known for objectivity(i.e. like fox etc). Not a bad piece and honestly the lady in the first story is extremely lucky. I'm not a big self defense person but I tell people if you want a gun for self defense at home buy a shotgun...hard to miss even when you're paniced. If you buy a handgun then plan to go target shooting at least once a month so you know how to use it when you have to. If you don't know what you're doing it can be more dangerous. She's damn lucky they ran off after she was disarmed.

On the second bit this was always my big concern, the low rate of gun ownership among women. Doubling from 11% to 23% in ~6 years is a HUGE deal, still I'd like to see it in the 40ish percent but hey it means there's hope to bring another demographic on board.
