After the fact - KC's smoking ban, three+ years later

So, now that we have had time to adjust and absorb the smoking ban, how do you feel about it? Was it a good thing, a bad thing, still an unholy infringement on our "civil rights", or do you just not care one way or another?

Poll to come.

It's easy for people to arbitrarily give away OTHER'S rights, so if that is what they advocate, I think it is only fair for them to feel the effects themselves.

I didn't respond because you are bordering on too stupid to take seriously. Yes ETS is a POTENTIAL workplace health risk. No shit. But OSHA has found that it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE for ETS to reach ppm levels that have any significant effect.

So once again. IF somehow a bar magically could concentrate ETS levels 1000 times and thereby violate OSHA workplace air quality standards... then yes, I am all for fining or shutting that place down.

That's kind of the point I'm trying to make. These people feel it's fine to strip OTHERS of their rights arbitrarily, so I can't imagine they would be so hypocritical as to think it is wrong when it happens to them, right? I'm sure I can get a poll worded in such a way as to give me a mandate to do this... then it will be ok right?

I think the point you actually made is that you better be careful about disagreeing with AustinChief.

So a simple disagreement results in a ban?

I don't really have a dog in this fight so to speak. I don't live in the KC area. But what happened to the idea of a business owner running his/her business as he/she sees fit and allowing the customer to choose whether to support that business? Tobacco is still legal. If the entertainment experience isn't enjoyable for me then I'm not going to go spend my money there. I'm thinking specifically about bars here. I'd like to smoke as I relax and enjoy an adult beverage. I don't want to go out to a patio in bad weather. If this bar smoking ban was so necessary wouldn't bars that don't allow smoking be doing great business?

If that was the case the board would be much smaller. No the point is about people being cavalier about other's rights and hopefully seeing what it's like being on the receiving end of that exchange.

They're the ones that recommend minimizing it. What's a good way to minimize it?

I happen to be the guy with the power here, so, since I have the power to do it, it's ok right? I don't need a valid reason, I can just arbitrarily do it and everyone should just go along with it and be fine right? It's my opinion that these posters are better off taking a few days off. Since I think that's the case, it shouldn't matter what they think right? I don't have to take THEIR opinion on the matter since I know what's best.
