After the fact - KC's smoking ban, three+ years later

So, now that we have had time to adjust and absorb the smoking ban, how do you feel about it? Was it a good thing, a bad thing, still an unholy infringement on our "civil rights", or do you just not care one way or another?

Poll to come.

Finally, I'll just reiterate my thought on this. Either ban cigarettes all together, or ! There have always been plenty of establishments who have chosen to be non smoking. You don't have to shove it down EVERYONE'S throat. Pun intended.

Goddammit Austin! I'm going to be late to work over this shit. Fight the good fight, brother. Civil liberties! They belong to us all. Well, not bar owners. Not anymore.

The idea a business owner is not allowed to decide if a perfectly legal object can be consumed in his own establishment is absolutely asinine.

You thinking it is ok makes you nothing but a ****ing asshole and a BULLY that thinks it's fine to impose your will on someone else because it is convenient for YOU.

Seriously, if you are OK with this... you are a either A)ignorant or B) a worthless piece of shit who thinks it's ok to impose your beliefs arbitrarily on those who don't agree with you... in which case I sincerely hope you cease to exist before responding to my post.

BTW on your "democracy" argument... do you HONESTLY think that majority rule is ok? IF so, I guess we shouldn't let coloreds vote in Alabama.. you know, majority rule and all. You ignorant piece of garbage.
Still here, bro. Didn't cease to exist before I responded, sorry about that. Do we need to hug this out?

Of all the debates I've seen you have in here, I really wouldn't have imagined that THIS would be the subject that would knock you off your rocker. You're acting like if you get caught smoking in public that you'll get sent to some re-education camp for new programming. Has there been some instance that this ban has affected you negatively and/or personally, outside of you having to step outside for a smoke?

Why stop the hatred where you did? How come bars stop selling alcohol at all? I work goofy hours, it would be nice to be off work at 4 am and be able to grab a beer on the way home.

Obviously I'm missing a bigger picture in your and others eyes. Rights being squashed, and all that. As I said initially, I don't see where anyone is truly suffering, and there certainly is no public outcry these days against the bans....

No as I said before, the smoking ban in Austin doesn't personally affect me in any substantial way. I just happen to give a shit about property RIGHTS.

Yes you obviously are missing a bigger picture. How about I show you? I think that your life would be better if you didn't post here for the next 3 days. What? You don't agree? TOO ****ING BAD. I KNOW WHAT'S BEST FOR YOU! So over the next 3 days please don't think you are "suffering" instead please be as ambivalent as you are over other people's rights.

We restrict private property rights all the time in this country. It's one of those trade offs that you have to make if you want to live in a society.

We do so with valid JUSTIFICATION (supposedly, too often this isn't the case, not like a statist like yourself would notice though) not just because some group decided they wanted to get their way. Please give me what the justification for a smoking ban is?

Workplace air quality? NO, not according to OSHA.

So what justification are YOU going to trot out?

I've never advocated smoking bans. But valid justification has never been the standard *cough drug prohibition cough*

AustinChief wtf? If you go back and read that exchange with DD when you calm down, you'll see that you are the one who was way out of line.

OH HEY! You may be right.. let's test it out and see if you agree... The society of Chiefsplanet generally agrees that they don't want to hear from you... SO... to live in THIS society you are going to have to forfeit your posting rights for the next week.

WHAT? I don't have a justifiable reason for doing this? Wait, YOU said it was ok since the majority of our little society don't want to listen to your garbage.

If it upsets you in the least, try to understand how a PRIVATE PROPERTY owner feels.

Consider it a little lesson on the concept of private property.

Plenty calm right now and I still think it's disgusting that you think the way you do.

And the educating of CP continues! Since you are one of the one's who thinks it's fine to strip people's rights arbitrarily... I'll assume you won't have an issue when it happens to you. BYE. see ya in a few days.
