Movies

Yeah, so I saw a lot of movies this weekend.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age - Mediocre, at best. Slow and dragged on. Shorten it to 2 hours and it's golden. It's not, so it fails.

Michael Clayton - Amazing. Everything about it is awesome. However, it's VERY complex and mind bending. You have to think, so be prepared. I still feel like I'm missing key details of exactly what happened. Gotta see it again.

Across the Universe - Perfect is one word that comes to mind. It just works. And, contrary to many people I bet, the movie is best viewed sober. Trust me.

For me, Apocalypse Now. It was weird and dull the first time around.

There's a review in the Life of Pi thread. IIRC it was a pretty positive review.

Watched Primer. If the intention of the movie is to confuse anyone without 2 Ph.Ds in Physics, they succeeded brilliantly. Holy shit I'm confused.

I liked this movie a lot. Reviews aren't great, but I dug it. I'm a sappy bastard. It's on Netflix.

I have a movie to recommend and i challenge you to rent it.

It is called Fist of the third Reich.

It is a movie about Max Schmeling and his rise in boxing as Hitler was coming to power era. The focus of this is on Max in the ring, not a war movie.
If you watch the trailer you would think it is. The movie was poorly marketed IMO.

Joe Louis only had three defeats in his career and one of them is to this man.
Interesting that years after boxing Max helped Louis out after he had spent all his money and was destitute and they became close friends.
When the two fought it was billed as Nazi vs. America along with the racial undertones.

I think the movie is done very well and holds your interest on a fighter that most people know little about.

It truly is a dense and confusing, deals with a familar sci-fi concept in a 'realistic' way. No exposition, no running into identifiable markers which would make what's going on clearer. Just a matter of fact style and some physics mumbo-jumbo that you sense the actors only have understand and you only understand a fraction of that fraction.
