Nolan's Batman 3 Title

Batman sequel 'Rises' again

LOS ANGELES - THE next Batman sequel has a title: The Dark Knight Rises. Distributor Warner Bros. confirmed the name for director Christopher Nolan's third adventure about the DC Comics vigilante hero, which follows Batman Begins in 2005 and The Dark Knight in 2008.

The Dark Knight Rises is due in theaters July 20, 2012. Bucking Hollywood's current wave of 3-D movies, Nolan is not planning to shoot the film in 3-D.

Warner Bros had agreed with Nolan's argument that the sequel should resist the 3-D craze, the director told the Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex blog, which first reported the title.

Nolan would not reveal what villain might appear in The Dark Knight Rises, but he said it would not be the Riddler, one of the key bad guys in the comics and past film and TV Batman tales.

Earlier this year, Nolan said he would not resurrect the Joker, the cackling villain played by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Ledger won the supporting-actor Academy Award for the role, a year after he died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. -- AP

The rumor is that the Joker would of had an epic escape from Arkham Asylum.
Perhaps with the assistance of Bane? Bane and the Joker would have been an incredible combination.

Man that would have been awesome. The movie looks so incredible regardless but that combination would be pure epic.

Anyone else think Joseph Gordon Levitt's character (John Blake) is basically gonna be Robin or Azrael?

I don't think he'll be Robin. Maybe Nightwing. But I'm really hoping he's Azrael.

Of course, that seems pretty unlikely given that this is the last one for Nolan and Co. That's a big can of worms to open up in your final chapter.

Maybe he'll be more of a next generation Jim Gordon than a next generation Batman.

We'll see... so many options! So looking forward to this.

Maybe he'll become the new batman, opening up the way for a new (or continuing) series of movies with the same mythology but without Bale or Nolan.

That could be interesting. I wouldn't be opposed to something like that.

Sure. Could be interesting. We've seen Wayne booted and rebooted and retooled time and time again. I think it would be interesting and pretty ballsy to see a director make a Batman movie with a different character. It's a way to do an origin story (which Hollywood seems to LOVE doing ad nauseum) and make it fresh.

If they want to keep Bale involved on a lighter work scale, they could do it like Batman Beyond, with Wayne behind the scenes.

When Hathaway says to Batman "You've given this city all you can", or somesuch, when Bats replies "No I haven't", it really didn't sound like Bale. Gordon-Levitt in the Batsuit?

Just went back and watched. It sounds exactly like Bale.

What's interesting about that moment to me is that it absolutely sounds like Bale, but it doesn't sound like he's using his normal affected Batman voice. So, either, he's toning that down this time around, or he's really distressed or maybe Catwoman knows his true identity.

All of which could be a fun added bit of interesting to this movie.

I think they toned it down a bit. I remember reading something that Nolan had them drop some treble and boost the bass to make Batman sound more menacing. But that was one of the major critiques of the film's audio, so I'd easily believe he toned it down this time around.
