Movies

Yeah, so I saw a lot of movies this weekend.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age - Mediocre, at best. Slow and dragged on. Shorten it to 2 hours and it's golden. It's not, so it fails.

Michael Clayton - Amazing. Everything about it is awesome. However, it's VERY complex and mind bending. You have to think, so be prepared. I still feel like I'm missing key details of exactly what happened. Gotta see it again.

Across the Universe - Perfect is one word that comes to mind. It just works. And, contrary to many people I bet, the movie is best viewed sober. Trust me.

Watched a pretty ****ed up movie last night on netflix -- "Alexandra's Project"
If you like emotional torture -- this is your movie...
This is a Aussie movie -- not as disturbing as Funny Games but shit -- Isn't wild that they ban so many violent video games from hitting store shelves in their country but movies like this and Funny Games are welcome?

Caught Thor in the theatre this weekend - Pretty Enjoyable. Loved the fish out of water feel and I thought the director did a pretty good job with mixing "mythology" with "Marvel Mythology". Although, it did leave a "waiting for Thor 2" feeling with me although not as bad as TESB did.

Been going through my DVD collection lately. Watched my "Thin Man" Boxed set (2 movies to go), To Have and Have Not (Bogie and Bacall), The War of the Worlds (George Pal version), Island in the Sky (John Wayne, a very under-rated movie), and Gojira (the original Japanese version of Godzilla minus Raymond Burr).

Gojira is interesting because they definitely rewrote a LOT of the dialogue in the American remake. I think the original is a much stronger movie. Sure, it's still a guy in a Latex Dinosaur suit, but if can get beyond that, there's some very interesting philosophical concepts in the original.

I thought Funny Games was fantastic. [the remake.] I might be alone though. Everyone else I know that saw it hated it.

That movie stuck in my mind as long as any I can think of. It really had an impact on me.

Both versions of Funny Games were fantastic, though I preferred the remake. Same director, and nearly shot for shot, I just preferred the performances of Tim Roth et. al. to the German cast.

I also enjoyed Funny Games (both versions) -- I'd recommend watching Alexandra's Project.

Agreed -- but sub Naomi Watts and Michael Pitt for Tim Roth...

Yeah, I was drawing a blank on both their names, but could remember Tim Roth. So I added the "et al" to cover bases. But you're right, Watts and Pitt were outstanding.

Great cast and a pretty good story too. Definitely recommend you go see it! Kristen Wiig is great in it...this should be a breakthrough performance for her from a movie standpoint.
Thanks man. I'm taking her tonight.

Those are some good movies right there. Always loved the Thin Man series, plus Asta is an answer in some crossword puzzle somewhere in the universe at least once a day.

That movie made me change the way I look at violence in media. And the strong negative reaction it got from critics fascinated me. Why do people consider it such a violent movie? What is it that disturbs people so much about it? Why is a film with [virtually] zero blood or death onscreen considered more violent than a Rambo flick with 500+ bodycount? Most of the movie is pure psychological suffering, but is still percieved as extremely violent by critics.

I have not seen the German original but I've heard it's pretty much identical.

The other day I caught a glimpse of The Quick and the Dead on TV. It is mind blowing how many name stars are in that movie. I still laugh out loud when I see sunlight coming through the bullet hole in Gene's chest.

Just finished watching Battle: Los Angeles... pretty ****ing terrible. A mountain of cliches heaped together. At various points in the movie it seems as though the writer just took lead characters from other alien flicks and transposed a weaker version into the script. I am still searching for some redeeming quality from the movie...

Oh yeah, Michelle Rodriguez reprises her role from Avatar. I should have known once she made an appearance I should just turn off the movie.
