Mac Iphoto Issues
Not looking to make this an anti-Mac post at all. Have had this Macbook for about 5 years. Haven't ever updated the OS because frankly my wife just uses it for Iphoto and projects for my kid.
For years, I've made relatives calendars for the holidays. I organized the latest calendar tonight, clicked purchase, and it told me that my IPhoto software was too out of date, but to upgrade, I needed either snow leopard or Lion OS. My concern is my photos in IPhoto. We had Iphoto crash about 5 times and there's numerous copies of the Iphoto library sitting around in my library. I copied one, took it over to my brothers Mac, which he just got, and when I loaded the calendar, I could see all the pictures, but when I clicked to buy calendar, it told me the resolutions were off or the files were corrupt and it couldn't process the calendar. Now, I'm nervous about upgrading to anything because my wife literally has 70 gigs of pictures/movies of our son and while I've backed up the Iphoto library, I'm concerned that if I upgrade, more files will become corrupt. What I guess I'm trying to figure out is the risk in just upgrading. Any tips from Mac guys on upgrading would be great. Not looking to start a fanboi war. Thanks in advance. |

Also, the actual iPhoto Library "file" is really just a folder with all of your images in it. You can show the contents of the file and get to all of your raw JPG images...

I upgraded my iMac earlier this year to snow leopard. It didn't lose a damn thing and I was running an old fricken OS. It'll be fine. I did have to upgrade my ram beforehand though.
