Two Deputies Shot at Wyandotte County Courthouse in KCK

Apparently two deputies were transporting a suspect to the courthouse and shooting went down. Two shot, female and male deputies, early report said female officer may have been KIA. Press still working out the details.

This after two guys were shot dead by police in Barney Allis Plaza yesterday. Too many shootings this week. Praying for the officers.

Sounds like the male deputy died and female is critical. Suspect shot and hospitalized as well. Sounding like he may have grabbed a deputy’s gun.

Yes, last report I heard was it was the male deputy that died at the scene and the female is critical. Also the perp may have been a juvenile, but that hasn't been established yet. Just a freakin' tragedy. Very sad.

Yes, this is really a tragedy. The perp who did this was suspected of murder in a couple of cases on both sides of the state line. When you kill two officers, you are going to get either the death penalty or life without parole on both counts. Kansas has the death penalty but hasn't executed anybody for a long time. This guy may be an exception.

Why officers need to have firearms to load and unload prisoners is actually what you should be looking at. Loading at a secure facility to unload across the street at another secure facility should never require interaction with a prisoner with a loaded weapon.

Why video appearance was not used is just WY CO but there is no excuse to have a gun near a prisoner especially in a secure area.

My prayers are with the fallen officers families and I hope they bring wrongful death suits against the county.

Hindsight is 20/20, but wouldn’t it be more difficult to do this if you were handcuffed behind your back and shackled. Plus, hog tied.

One of my buds, an ex KCKS cop, said that policies are being changed to both remove the firearms from the officers who are physically handling the prisoner and to restrain them like kangaroos, binding their hands to their chest when being transfered and then removed in court.
