Lol, yes I was too young for that shit, but I always had a way of working around my parents. I saw a short clip of NIN performing "Burn" on MTV one day and all that I heard from the voice-over was that it was a band called Nine Inch Nails. From that point on, I was bound and determined to purchase the CD that had that song on it. At school the next day, I asked all of my friends at school about this band that I saw on an MTV clip called Nine Inch Nails and they were singing a song called "burn." I was hoping that one of them would be able to purchase the album from one of their older brothers or something. I asked them if they knew what I was talking about. Nobody did. I then began asking people who weren't my friends and finally stumbled upon some luck with a Dungeons and Dragons/Magic freak who was notorious for growing his fingernails out and sharpening them so he could use them as "weapons" if anyone tried beating him up. Not only did he know what band I was talking about, but he also knew some random facts about them, although he had never heard the song, "burn" nor did he know what album it was on. He told me that he believed the band got it's name from the length of the nails that pounded Jesus's hands to the cross being nine inches. A light bulb came on in my head almost immediately. My parents were Bible-thumpers. I was going to tell them about this new Christian band that I heard from one of my friends called Nine Inch Nails who's name was inspired by the nails which pounded Jesus's hands into the cross. I was going to ask them to buy the CD for me the next time we were at the mall together. And sure enough, the next time I was at the music store in the mall with my parents, I found one of their CD's (The Downward Spiral) and asked them to buy it for me like they promised. My mom said, "sure," and didn't bother to look at the CD or some of the names of their songs with questionable titles such as, "heresy," "Mr. Self Destruct," "march of the pigs," "ruiner," "big man with a gun," etc. I covered the "parent advisory" label with my thumb and while the clerk was ringing it up, my mom was pre-occupied by some (presumably) Trisha Yearwood CD's. Parents.....suckers. Rico.....score. Although I was a bit pissed because I couldn't find the song, "burn" on any of their albums. It took me years to discover that song was on the Natural Born Killers soundtrack...I was starting to think that I either imagined the song or perceived as something that it wasn't. I was happy with The Downward Spiral album though and proceeded to scheme ways to get my hands on Broken and Pretty Hate Machine and succeeded admirably.
