If it wants to prevent voter fraud, then my profile should be sufficient. They say they won't spam me, but they make no guarantee they won't use my friends list for other things. This is badly thought out on their part.

I agree with your take MCF, I don't agree with using my friends list at all.
Also I'm not an advocate of the person getting the most votes is based on a popularity contest not necessarily for having the best entry.
