Thought the first was pretty stupid, to be honest.
The best thing about Pacific Rim was actually when I was watching the new Godzilla with my kids. When they were talking about how to handle Godzill and the, errr, Mutas or whatever they are called, my youngest son leaned over and said "I know ---- build giant robots!"
I thought that was pretty damn good for a 10 year old.
