I get sick of the whining about terrible perimeter defense when it has been stated again and again (by Self) that KU will give up a 3 here and there if is means the easy 2 pointers are unavailable. Usually guys are helping in the post leaving their man on the perimeter open. It's not like a man to man with no help D where if that were the case I would agree that the D around the arc has been bad.
Percentage wise it's the smarter play and I think KU's efficiency ratings since Self has been at KU prove it to be a successful strategy. Once in a while you will get burned though if the other team is making an inordinately high number of high percentage shots or you get a guy stepping out and shooting and making them who doesn't traditionally do that (Jordan Egleseder anyone?)
