Were the 6 people just standing in a circle to the side of the rest of the bystanders? How close were they to the other bystanders? Were the 6 people mixed in with the rest of the bystanders?

The way I'm reading this is that those 6 were standing around her husband kicking his ass and that the people NOT involved in the beating were almost certainly NOT near the action.
But you go ahead and dream up scenarios that don't make any sense, I don't really care.
