It seems like thye have done a sly nod to book readers in each episode this season.
In the 1st it was Cersei saying how she had heard Tyrion's nose was cut off, but it wasn't as bad as all that.
In the second, it was Jaime telling Brienne that Catelyn may tell her to throw herself on her sword.
In the third it was Tyrion's reference to the Mereenese Knot which was GRRM's excuse for taking soooo long to write AFFC and ADWD in that he wrote and re-wrote and re-wrote the Mereen parts trying to get the timing of the people arriving and the structure of events correct, and to figure out how to get Dany out of there.
