Right, the sister humping, kid killing (attempted) character is really so sympathetic.
The books do a great job with him and many other characters of showing that what initially appears black and white is not always so, and everyone has lots of shades of gray. And his killing of the Mad King certainly gets exonerated in my book, and therefore he is "misunderstood" or demeaned for what really was a good act.
But that doesn't exonerate him from the many other terrible things he has done. So yeah, he raped his sister, who he's been steadily boning since god-knows-when. That's hardly the straw that broke the back of his moral compass.
