I would normally agree. However, this is not like Nintendo where they sell two parts to a controller or the PS2's multitap instead of just building in 4 ports.
The device is super thin. USB is, by default, not as thin. So, one has to redesign the whole thing. I really don't think it's an accessory thing. I also think you'll see other manufacturers building such accessories.
