American Graffiti was a HUGE hit. Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Cindy Williams, Paul LeMat, McKenzie Phillips and Charlie Martin Smith were overnight stars, not to mention, Harrison Ford.
That film cost $725,000 dollars to make and earned more than $115 MILLION at the box office. The gross adjustment would be more than $500 million today.
If Lucas truly didn't want any known actors, why did he audition the likes of Kurt Russell, Harrison Ford and Cindy Williams? That directly flies in the face of your ridiculous contention.
And finally, you weren't even alive when
Star Wars was released. You have no idea what made that movie so successful.
