Do you have kids? If you don't, imagine you do. Your daughter wanted a Justin Bieber Barbie dreamhouse or whatever the **** it is children play with these days. She comes down on Christmas morning and sees that Santa left it for her. She's absolutely overjoyed. Do you tell her, "Now hold on, honey. You don't know if you'll actually like playing with this toy. Pump the brakes a little."

That's what you're doing. "We're overrating Mahomes a little bit, aren't we?"

We're starting our own home-drafted QB for the first time since Brodie ****ing Croyle. We're starting our own drafted rookie QB for the first time since 1979. We're starting our own drafted 1st QB for the first time since 1984. The fans know this and have been demanding the team do something about it for decades. They finally do. We're excited. And all you can do is say, "You guys need to pump the brakes."

Nobody has even said anything that outrageous other than "what if..." scenarios that involve Mahomes being really really really ****ing good for 10+ years in a Chiefs uniform. Nobody is saying he WILL be that QB, even if he has the potential to reach that level. We're just enjoying the excitement and HOPE that comes with the experience of drafting and developing a high-profile QB, because it's been 34 goddamn years since the last time we tried it.

You're treating Mahomes like he's just another brand new QB, no different than when you watched Alex Smith, Matt Cassel, or even Brady ****ing Quinn start football games for the Chiefs for the first time. This is completely ****ing different. Put some joy in your ****ing heart.
