The 1911 is my favorite also. I've seen/owned AMT Hardballers for less than $400 and had Kimbers for over $1000. There's also 1911's higher end models for more dough, that I've shot, but have not personally owned.
I also have a Ruger P90 (love it), a Taurus 3" for CCW, and lastly, a Hi-Point. The Hi-Point is cheap ($165) and shoots damn good. However, it weighs as much as a new-born, looks cheap, and the grip sucks. But it gets the job done.

The old P90 is a lot of .45 for the $$$ but she sure has a fat ass!
