Maybe have him check how many of his friends have a PS3 since you already know he has friends with a 360.

Also, keep in mind, (this is my biggest gripe with the 360) You have to pay up to $50 PER PROFILE per YEAR with the 360 to be online.
I'd imagine his son would be the only one playing it, since he said he isn't much of a gamer.

I know that I had a 360 from launch, so it didn't really matter to me what my friends had, but if I were buying a system right now; that would most definitely be an enormous factor in my decision.

I like playing with random folks and people I meet online well enough, but playing with your real friends trumps that. I'd be willing to guess that about 12-15 of my friends game a little bit and own consoles.

Only two of us, myself included, own a PS3 currently. My other buddy had one, but got pissed when he found out they weren't releasing Ninja Gaiden 2 on the PS3 and sold it. Plus, he's a huge arcade games guy, so he missed that aspect as well. He strayed from the 360, but it's magical power drew him back in. And he loved the first Fable, and was pretty amped for Fable 2.
