Two and a Half Men was well-known outside of Hollywood, I can't get anyone to say a bad thing about Charlie. No one. Not people that know him or worked with him, briefly or otherwise. They've all said he was professional and charming (minus the breakdown, which apparently was exaggerated).
OTOH, people speak ill of Chuck all the time. He apparently has a massive ego and has no problem yelling and screaming profanities, firing people on the spot and talking down to anyone and everyone, despite their success.
That said, Chuck's a genius. The guy is a hit songwriter, an amazing guitarist (he was Pat Matheny's mentor and teacher and the University of Miami) and has had countless hit TV shows. Countless.
In those terms, he's pretty much a "god" in Hollywood and he's earned that status. In the end, his ego and Charlie's ego just couldn't be in the same room at the same time.
