Quarterbacks are boom or bust. If one works out, he's worth a first rounder - probably multiple first rounders. If he doesn't work out, a 7th was too much.
If Alex Smith is good enough to win playoff games here, basically, if he's as good as he was last year - good enough for San Fran to be a muffed punt away from the Super Bowl - then a 2nd won't be overpaying. But I think we did give a premium for what he's worth right now, as I was hoping for 3rd-4th.
Either way, the QB position is settled, now we move on with one purpose which is improving the roster everywhere else.

Good post. Can't really argue with the 2nd rounder. Though, looking through some of your 2nd round picks, even first round picks what have they really done for you? Guys like Dexter, Turk McBride, Branden Albert and more.
Dont you think getting a solid vet to stabilize your offense is better than taking a risk for guys like stated above?
