If you have Safari running, you can have multiple pages open. That's good enough for what I'm usually up to.

Me neither. Multitasking isn't what is prompting me to upgrade. What's prompting me is that this is the first OS update that discards or doesn't support old hardware. I'm at a 1G iPod touch. That's the real reason.
That and I'm in the market for a new phone anyway.
