You've essentially created the Sandbox equivalent of the NHL's RFA rules at that point.

You see it fairly often in the NHL, where a team will trade someone with no time left on their deal and who they have no intention of re-signing to a team that will look to match any offers made to that player (or extend them in advance of the FA signing period).

Anything to create more activity is good, IMO.
