And if we play a lot of man, then we need to start experimenting with Ward and Smith and Lucas getting snaps over Sorenson and Parker and maybe Scandrick (pick your worst corner). We have younger, faster cover guys sitting on the bench and I just don't understand why they're not getting opportunities over guys that keep proving that they lose 1 on 1 matchups.
We don't generally play all that much single-high. We used to, before Parker's wheels came off. But we haven't done it nearly as much over the last couple of years.

We did it quite a bit more yesterday and Parker didn't seem up to the task. I agree - if they're going to play that much single-high, they can't run Parker. But for the most part, they're not going to. The cover-1 looks were designed to deal with Gurley.

I loved the schemes Sutton used yesterday but man I wish he'd have trusted Lucas to run it instead of Parker.

As for the 'Sutton's schemes are so complicated' stuff - they're not. Just more bloviating. Ron Parker said it once so Soren Petro treats it as gospel. His coverage stuff is pretty basic - Ron Parker just isn't terribly bright. The stuff Sutton does in coverage is just basic zone coverages and even then, that's a matter of necessity. When you give Sutton corners that are more capable in man, he'll run man coverage.

That's why the scheme seemed fairly natural for most of the game yesterday, especially after the 1st quarter. That's Bob's preference, IMO. Nelson just spent a lot of time being a day late and a dollar short. He wasn't getting blasted, but he seemed to be just a step behind a lot and Goff was throwing darts all day.
