I'm guessing it seized up, that happened in my old Voyager, it made a hell of a ruckus when it happened. Luckily it had a belt separate from the serpentine so I just cut the belt and it was fine. If it's on the serpentine he's probably ****ed.

With that said, those prices seem inflated, especially an additional $450 to flush the system. The shop he had it towed to is probably banking on him not wanting to hassle with towing it somewhere else.
