A point I made for new users in another thread is that the power of reddit isn't in just going there once in a while and looking at the front page, but of creating an account and customizing the list of subreddits you're subscribed to. Frankly, I think a lot of the defaults are 99% fluff and circle jerks, so I usually recommend getting rid of these unless you're into lots of image macros.
