This brings up another good point.
"New Orleans" is a boxy, shitty name for a city. It's the "LUHNS" at the end that throws off the flow of any mascot name. Nothing rolls off the tongue.
The New Orleans Hornets were a mouthful to say. Something about going LUHNS- HOR- NETS trips up and just sounds like shit.
Well, is there ANY name that would go well with "New Orleans"? Let's ignore stuff that matches the city/area's image. And stick with something simple like cat names.
New Orleans Tigers?
New Orleans Lions?
New Orleans Panthers?
Those all sound like shit. There's no ring to anything up there.
To me, the only way around this issue of too many syllables that end with a consonant is to stick to one word.
New Orleans Rape
New Orleans Jazz
New Orleans Saints
It's not perfect, but it works. "Pelicans" just has too many damn syllables.
