Outgoing schools had 150,000 total students. Incoming schools had 30,000. Pretty sweet deal for those two schools if you ask me.

Conferences have always shifted since college sports began.
Schools of consequence are never the ones that move though.
To the Big 12 the schools that left are no different than the schools that joined. All involved in "realignment" are simply here to facilitate games for the blue-bloods.
