Nah, you just have to learn how to read people. One way of communicating something to one person could be useless when trying to communicate with someone else. I think that's why I seem so shy around new people. I try to see what type of communicator they are before talking. If they're quiet too, then I can usually come up with some stupid questions for small talk to break the ice. Otherwise, I'm more comfortable around others that can make conversation.
