How do you figure that makes sense? If both of them get killed, how does a new one rise? Does some Sith spirit contact him and say "Congratulations, you evil bastard, you're the new Sith lord! Now, go fine ONE follower, and the two of you should immediately begin taking over the entire galaxy."
What if there are a couple of dozen equally skilled evil apprentice candidates? I mean, the galaxy is a big place. Does he pick one, and send rejection letters to the rest?
